If you manage inquiry forms in WordPress, you have likely come across MW WP Form at least once.

Having been involved in numerous WordPress projects myself, I have relied on MW WP Form for many years.

It is an excellent plugin that allows for flexible form construction with confirmation screens and has been widely used in Japanese web production environments.

First and foremost, I want to emphasize that MW WP Form is still a plugin being maintained with care.

While new feature additions have ceased in recent years, security vulnerabilities are addressed promptly whenever they are discovered.

For instance, a recently reported arbitrary file move vulnerability (CVE-2026-4347) was addressed with a fixed version released within just a few days.

Details are clearly organized in KUSANAGI’s vulnerability information summary. → View details on the MW WP Form arbitrary file move vulnerability

The speed of this response demonstrates the responsibility and dedication of the current maintainers in keeping the plugin safe.

MW WP Form is Still Active—Which is Exactly Why it’s Time to Consider the Future

Looking at the form usage across the client sites we manage for maintenance and development, the breakdown is as follows:

Form Plugin Usage Ratio
Contact Form 7 Approx. 70%
MW WP Form Approx. 15%
Others Approx. 15%

As these numbers show, MW WP Form still plays a vital role in many real-world environments. It is by no means a "dead" plugin.

However, as officially guided, it has entered a phase where new feature development has stopped and new adoption is no longer recommended.

To ensure long-term operation, it is a reality that we need to consider a "migration destination" that can be used with peace of mind in the future.

A Practical Challenge: reCAPTCHA Compatibility

One point of concern with MW WP Form is reCAPTCHA support, which is crucial for spam prevention.

In most cases, implementing reCAPTCHA with MW WP Form requires an additional separate plugin.

While not a fatal flaw, this increases the number of dependent plugins, which in turn adds to the management and maintenance burden.

Furthermore, some of these auxiliary plugins are updated infrequently, leaving some uncertainty for long-term operations.

In WordPress maintenance, as the number of dependent plugins increases, so do the future costs of upkeep.

That is Why I Decided to Create a New Alternative

I have no intention of dismissing MW WP Form.

Quite the opposite.

I want to respect the value that MW WP Form has provided for years while offering a next-generation option. Driven by this sentiment, I have begun developing a new form plugin.

Its name is Edel Smart Forms.

What I Aim to Achieve with Edel Smart Forms

In the currently developing Edel Smart Forms, we plan to include the following features:

  • Import support from MW WP Form
  • Migration assistance for existing form settings
  • Built-in reCAPTCHA v3 support
  • Support for forms with confirmation screens
  • A redesigned architecture focused on safety
  • Compatibility with modern form design templates

A key priority is ensuring that existing assets built with MW WP Form do not go to waste.

I want to enable users to migrate their existing forms as seamlessly as possible into a safer, more user-friendly environment.

This is Not a "Replacement," but "Preparation for the Future"

MW WP Form has a proven track record of supporting many projects over the years.

That value remains unchanged.

Therefore, I want to prioritize the idea of "increasing choices for the next step" rather than simply "ending MW WP Form."

Edel Smart Forms is one answer to that challenge.

I want to provide a path to the future that even those who hold MW WP Form in high regard can choose with confidence.

With that goal in mind, I will continue development with care and precision.
